Frequently Asked Questions.
Support Coordination is a capacity-building support funded by the NDIS to assist participants in understanding and implementing their plans. Unlike support workers who provide direct care, a Support Coordinator acts as an independent navigator. They work alongside you to interpret your funding, connect you with suitable providers, and build your confidence to manage your supports independently in the future.
| Level | Description |
|---|---|
| Support Connection (Level 1) | Short-term assistance to help you get started and connect with supports. |
| Coordination of Supports (Level 2) | Ongoing support to build the skills you need to manage your plan, negotiate with providers, and ensure a mix of supports is working for you. |
| Specialist Support Coordination (Level 3) | A higher level of support for participants with complex needs or high risks, delivered by a qualified practitioner (e.g., allied health professional). |
How Does it Benefit NDIS Participants?
| Maximising Plan Value | Coordinators help you understand the flexibility in your budget and ensure your funds are used effectively to achieve your goals. |
| Connecting to Quality Services | They research and link you with NDIS-registered providers, community services, and mainstream supports (like health, housing, or education) that you might not find on your own. |
| Building Independence | A major benefit is capacity building—learning how to navigate the system. Coordinators coach you on using the NDIS portal, negotiating service agreements, and resolving issues with providers. |
| Choice and Control | Coordinators act independently to offer you a range of provider options, ensuring you can choose the services that best fit your lifestyle and preferences. |
| Preparing for Reviews | They gather reports and evidence to demonstrate your progress and future needs, ensuring you are well-prepared for your next NDIS plan reassessment. |
| Crisis Resolution | For those with complex needs, Coordinators help resolve immediate points of crisis and ensure a consistent delivery of service. |

What Your Support Coordinator Should Do
Specialist Support Coordination (Official Page)
The main difference lies in the level of complexity and the intensity of support provided. The NDIS funds three distinct levels of support coordination to meet different participant needs.
| Level | Description |
|---|---|
| Support Connection (Level 1) | This is a foundational, short-term support designed to increase your ability to connect with informal, community, and funded supports. The focus is on helping you understand your plan so you can eventually manage your own supports. |
| Coordination of Supports (Level 2) | This provides comprehensive, ongoing support for participants with more complex needs. It involves designing a support plan, negotiating with providers, resolving service delivery issues, and building your capacity to direct your own life. |
| Specialist Support Coordination (Level 3) | A higher level of time-limited support for participants with high-risk or highly complex situations. It is delivered by a qualified practitioner (e.g., Allied Health or Psychologist) to address barriers and ensure consistent service delivery. |

A Support Coordinator acts as an independent navigator to help you bring your NDIS plan to life. Their primary role is to help you understand your funding, connect you with the right providers, and build your skills so you can exercise more choice and control over your supports.
| Responsibility | Description |
|---|---|
| Understand Your Plan | They help you interpret your NDIS plan, explaining your budget, flexibility rules, and what you can (and cannot) spend your funding on. |
| Connect with Supports | They research and link you with a mix of supports, including NDIS-registered providers, community services, and mainstream supports (such as health, education, or housing). |
| Establish Services | They assist you in negotiating with providers, setting up Service Agreements, and creating service bookings to ensure you get value for money and your funds last. |
| Coach and Refine | A key part of their role is capacity building—coaching you on how to use the NDIS portal, resolve issues with providers, and manage your own supports independently in the future. |
| Report to the NDIA | They monitor your progress and prepare reports for the NDIA, providing evidence of your outcomes and future support needs for your next plan re-assessment. |

Yes. Under the NDIS principle of Choice and Control, you have the right to change your Support Coordinator or any other service provider at any time if you feel they are no longer the right fit for you or if your needs change.
| Step | Action Required |
|---|---|
| Check Your Agreement | Review your Service Agreement to identify the required notice period for ending the service. This is typically outlined in the cancellation or termination clause. |
| Notify the Provider | Inform your current provider in writing (email is usually sufficient) that you wish to end the service and transition to a new provider. |
| Request a Handover | Your outgoing Support Coordinator should provide a transition plan or handover report to your new provider. This ensures your new team has the information they need to continue your supports without interruption. |

Support Coordination Explained
You always have the final say over who delivers your supports. Under our Conflict of Interest Policy, we are committed to providing you with a minimum of three provider options (where available) for any service you require.
| Your Rights | Our Commitment |
|---|---|
| Independence | We act impartially. If we recommend a service, it is because they fit your needs, not because of any financial benefit to us. |
| Choice | We present you with multiple options so you can compare providers and choose the one that best aligns with your personality and goals. |
| Transparency | If a potential conflict of interest exists (e.g., we have a relationship with a provider), we will declare it to you immediately so you can make an informed decision. |

What to look for in a provider (Official Page)
Support Coordination is funded through your NDIS plan, specifically under the Capacity Building budget category. It is a funded support, which means there is no direct cost to you as long as you have the appropriate funding allocated in your plan.
| Funding Detail | How It Works |
|---|---|
| No Gap Fees | We strictly adhere to the NDIS Pricing Arrangements. We do not charge “gap” fees, exit fees, or hidden administrative costs. |
| Invoicing | We claim payments directly from the NDIS (if you are Agency Managed) or send invoices to your Plan Manager. You generally do not need to pay invoices from your own pocket. |
| Travel Costs | We charge for travel time when we visit you at home or in the community. These costs are claimed from your plan in accordance with NDIS pricing limits to cover the time taken for our staff to reach you. |
